Sediment Dredging Services

Sediment build-up is a natural process as much as erosion occurs around us everywhere we are and everywhere we go. These natural processes can be observed in nature from the erosion which formed the Grand Canyon up to the sedimentation buildup in the Nile Delta.

The phenomena is however much more pronounced and accelerated when mankind starts modifying nature by the construction of infrastructure and water works in particular. From the building of weirs and dams to the building of harbours and other water works, siltation forms an integral and undeniable result of the modification of nature and needs to be accepted as part of the consequences of our intervention actions.

As a result, siltation of waterbodies is a matter to be dealt with throughout the lifetime of the facilities built. Dredging (i.e. removal of sand/silt/sludge) from waterbodies can either be for the construction of the infrastructure (capital dredging) or for the maintenance of such infrastructure (maintenance dredging).

Dredging Africa focusses strongly on Maintenance Dredging, mostly focussed on inland water bodies (dams and weirs), although Maintenance Harbour Dredging is not excluded from the portfolio.

Over 10 years in the industry, Dredging Africa has established itself as an expert / specialist service provider of dredging works in South and Southern Africa. We use only specialised equipment which has proven in practice to be effective over the time we have been doing this. We push hard with new innovations and technology to stay at the forefront of our industry. Our close ties to industry leaders elsewhere in the world keeps us abreast of new trends and innovation, which compliments our own innovation drive locally.

Managing invasive plant species from waterbodies forms an integral part of water body maintenance. The longer you wait – the more expensive it becomes! There are many different types of invasive water plant species of which reeds and hyacinths are probably the most common. Some species however grow from the bottom and need to be cut before removal is possible.

Dredging Africa has developed unique equipment to deal with all sorts of invasive species. From specially adapted Long-Reach Excavators to Water Bulldozers with cutter attachments and Amphibious Excavators, we are equipped to remove your problem in an effective way.
Water Plant removal often combines with Silt dredging due to the problems being related.

Let us do an assessment of your invasive plant problem and see how we can assist!
